Any Angelinos, please don't hesitate to give horror stories. I hear the LAPD are really scary and Nazi-like.

Los Angeles is not what it used to be. LA's homeless population is on the rise and there are many complaints that policemen from other cities as far away as Long Beach and Inglewood are dropping scores of homeless into the streets of downtown. Even my once lovely neighborhood in Silverlake is now a slum, with trash and human excrement littering the sidewalks. My cousin had the rear window of his Mercedes smashed when he parked in front of my house a couple of months ago. A few blocks away you can even see lots of homeless men camped across from a school. And yes, the policemen-everywhere you see them, patrolling the streets like sharks on the prowl, and everywhere you see them stopping drivers, causing traffic problems. LA is the car chase and road rage capital of the world. Drivers here don't even give a clue about being safe. They'd love to beat the red light, cut lanes dangerously, slow down in front of you or tailgate when you're in front of them, or wreak havoc just because it's "cool" to them. Everywhere you go in town it's bumper-to-bumper traffic. During the summer it can get very miserable 90-100 degree heat (even in September), which along with the traffic, can be a contributing factor to these things. Twenty years ago, New York was no different from what LA is now. Now the tables have turned. I was born and raised here since the '70s and it's sad of what has become of this once great city. On a brighter note, it's still a nice place to visit--as long as you stay on the west side (Beverly Hills, Century City, Santa Monica), but when visiting downtown and adjacent areas, please be careful.

l. a. isn't, and under no circumstances would be a great vacationer charm like NYC or San Francisco. yet as an l. a. community, i like my city. advantageous the site visitors sucks yet i under no circumstances had a confusing time assembly cool human beings. There are rude human beings in each and every city (fantastically ny!!!). l. a. has such ideal climate, plenty to do, and many opportunities to do what you like (in spite of which could be)... this is a great place. i like residing right here yet I completely comprehend what you recommend once you're saying a vacationer could be disillusioned.

I have been to LA 4 times and take my word you wouldn't want to live there unless you like to move 2 miles a hour all morning. As far as visiting it is great as long as you stay out the bad neighbor hoods unless you find a crack head tying to steal your car fun.

LA has bad problems -- smog, traffic, crime, homelessness. These would bother a visitor less than a resident, if only because the visitor stands a chance of getting in and getting out before anything bad happens.

dude take it from me, you don't wanna live here. i'm 24 and have lived here all my life, it is VERY expensive to live here. i live in a 3 bedroom apt for $1600 a month and i live in a decent neighborhood, just about average. if i didn't live here i'd love to visit this place but than again everyone has their own opinions.
