Pros: Very beautiful mountains, cliffs, coves, trees, wildflowers. Hip educated people (in towns near the coast only). Lots to do. Sunshine. Cafes and little hip coffee shops.
Cons: Never really gets hot in summer- foggy. Beach is cold, not swimmable. Very expensive housing which leads you to not really save any money, and it's depressing to have to rent when you could buy somewhere else. The people are a bit shallow and flakey about meeting up.

Bad earthquakes happen about once every 20 yrs and are confined to a small area.
Between those quakes there are many harmless 3m to 5m quakes that humor locals as they watch visitors get nervous.

Traffic in and around LA is HORRIBLE all day and evening.
Stick to the beach cities, from Malibu to Laguna, much nicer.
Hollywood is called hollyweird by locals.
Venice is called Where the debris meets the sea, by locals. Its actually a skid row along the beaches. A very interesting walk on weekends, mostly only north of Washington Blvd.

The climate is good, but it shakes there. Earthquakes.

Hospitals? Now there's something I never thought of.
Here's what it boils down to: The weather's great, the traffic sucks. There are a million things to do here. Even the crappiest day can be salvaged if you watch the sun set over the beach. There's a reason Pharrell shot his "Happy" video in LA. Once the weekend comes, the vibe of the city is "happy". And if you're at the theme parks, it's like that EVERY DAY.
340+ days of sunshine (I think it was around 350 last year) makes up for a lot of traffic. So, if you have good skills and can afford the high price, and live near work, you're golden.
