Technically...

Once you're east of Calabasas, you're in LA.

So, south of Rt 101, if you can afford it. I'm talking the LA Hills.

It is a bit cheaper north on Rt 101.

But, first you need a job.

Second, you should live near your job.

If you're that person looking for a job in the medical field.

They're building new hospital in Tarzana, near the library.

So, if you get an offer there, I would look....

North of 101 and west of Rt 405.

Parts of Reseda are seedy.

If you can't afford LA, try Santa Clarita or San Fernando.

Once you're out of the area, you'll be dealing with LA traffic.

So, Sherman Oaks and Studio City would be nice.

But you would need to travel Rt 101 and cross Rt 405.

Oh the daydreams of the 16/17 year olds bored on their summer break. For someone who tries to make themselves smarter by saying that they were able to graduate early and get their AA, you are asking questions like a 13 year old.

Just so you know not everyone in LA lives like the Kardashians, and most of the restaurants you see them go to, you can't afford.

So sorry to burst your bubble, but you aren't moving to LA in a couple of years unless you get a job that will enable you to be able to live here. Where as an "English" major it won't be anywhere near Calabasas. Then when you do get a job your question will be "where is a good place to live near my job".

So go with your home school, Community College, or 4 year college, or what ever type of school you decide to go to on any particular day. Once you graduate, THEN look for a job, THEN once you get a job look for a place to live.

"like some of the places and restaurants in calabasas"

HA HA HA... really? Do you know how big Calabasas is? Besides a handful of unique restaurants and shops found in a couple of strips malls, there isn't very much special about Calabasas.

Why go anonymous AFTER you get answers that call you out? Just own it.

A "good place to live" is close to your job. I know it must seem cool to live in Calabasas, but the fact is that you can't afford it. Real people live close to their job, or they suffer terrible commutes (as I do). But I was settled into a nice area BEFORE I got my current position, so I deal with it. I can afford it, and newbies don't have that luxury.

Brentwood and other areas in West Los Angeles are rather decent. But, again, this is Southern California, and if you are coming from any other place but San Francisco or New York City, then you will need to seriously consider how much disposable income that you have and how much of it you can afford to expend.
