Im looking for a good place to live preferably on the coast. Somewhere surfer friendly. Possibly Huntington Beach? Im not sure if farther south towards San Diego is better, or maybe farther north towards Santa Monica, maybe Malibu. What are some younger neighborhoods in these areas? Any suggestions?

You get a place within 5 miles of where you find a job. Until then you do not select a place to live. Your job determines where you live.

When I moved to the LA area I had a job lined up that was in Orange County so I lived in Orange County.

If you select a place to live first, I guarantee you that you will be offered a great job at the opposite end of greater LA with a 2 hour commute each way.

San diego is the best imo ;) I wish to move there some day...Orange county is pretty nice, I am not a big fan of huntington beach however. Irvine was voted californias most safest city to live and its beautiful and beach accessible and is a hop skip and a jump away from both san diego and LA.... Younger night life would probably be more santa monica/malibu as well as san diego ( gas lamp district)

Anything close to a beach is considered Prime Real Estate, and will have a premium price. If you're not independently wealthy you'll need to think further inland.
