Wow! There must be something in the water because recently we have been getting tons of question from high school students that instantly want to move to California upon graduation. What gives?

PLEASE stay in New York to get your education. The CUNY system will give you a quality education, and for a lot less money as "Mad Dog" stated. The out of state tuition will cost you roughly double what a California resident (or Illegal Alien) pays, and almost every semester the tuition and fees are raised to compensate of California's budget problems.

If you have the money go ahead and apply at UCLA (a state sponsored school) or USC (a private school) and see if you can get accepted. The ARE a few rare subjects they do a better job at than other schools. .

I know of no community colleges in LA with school-sponsored housing of any kind. The students all stay in private apartments or houses in the community. As the previous contributors have noted, the California community colleges, and even the Cal State University campuses, are in a complete crisis right now because of state budget cuts. Students are having trouble getting into the classes they need to graduate. UCLA is okay for the moment, but tuition has skyrocketed. USC is private so it hasn't been affected as much.

First, my family is from up in the adirondacks, Lake Placid. But I was born in Los Angeles. Let me suggest that you begin collecting credits in a community college and later transfer your credits to UCLA { USC } is way to expensive.and is in a poorer neighborhood than UCLA. You can expect a completely different style of living in L.A., you may not like it. It's High Crime, poor air to breath and expensive to live there.

Stay in NY for school. Saves a bundle on out of state tuition.

And as for community college? Go to one closest to home.

If you're doing good where you are, I wouldn't suggest comming here. Our schooling situation is horrible and only getting worse. I go to a CC and every semester they're adding students, raising prices, and droppin loads of classes. I would not suggest it.
